Chasing the Northern Lights in Sommarøy, Norway

For the past few days, I have been in Sommarøy, Norway, together with a fellow photographer, on a dedicated mission: capturing the Northern Lights. The weather forecast did not look very promising at first, but fortune was on our side. On the very first evening after our arrival, the skies cleared just enough to reveal the magnificent aurora borealis. It was a breathtaking experience, and I managed to capture some truly stunning images.

As someone who primarily works in black and white, this experience was a rare opportunity to embrace vibrant colors in my photography. The luminous green and purple waves dancing across the Arctic sky were unlike anything I had ever photographed before. The contrast between my usual monochrome work and these radiant displays made the experience even more special.

During the daytime, we also took the chance to photograph the rugged Norwegian landscapes. Snow-covered mountains, icy fjords, and the remote beauty of Sommarøy provided endless inspiration. The ever-changing light in this part of the world adds an element of unpredictability to every shot, making the process all the more exciting.

Unfortunately, the weather has since taken a turn for the worse, with heavy snowfall limiting our opportunities. However, in the far north, conditions can change rapidly, and we remain hopeful that the skies will clear again in the coming nights. The thrill of chasing the Northern Lights is not just in the images we capture but also in the experience itself—braving the cold, waiting patiently under the vast Arctic sky, and feeling the rush when the lights finally appear.

Regardless of what the next few days hold, this journey has already been an unforgettable one, full of challenges, surprises, and moments of awe. Stay tuned for more updates and, hopefully, more images of this incredible natural phenomenon!
